The main issue with most Trojan and similar home gym systems is their inherent limitations once you get past the beginner/intermediate stage. The stack resistance usually tops out earlier than needed for strength gains, and the fixed movement paths can restrict natural mechanics, which isn’t ideal for progressive overload. Durability can also be hit-or-miss—cables, pulleys, and bushings start to wear with regular heavy use, especially if you’re moving decent weight.
For serious long-term progress, especially for strength or power goals, you’ll likely outgrow these machines—both in terms of resistance and exercise variety. A power cage with a good barbell and plates remains the gold standard for advanced training due to versatility and freedom of movement. That said, for general fitness or limited space, these machines do have their place, but most experienced lifters eventually transition to free weights for continued progression.
