Why are we all so hyped on adjustable dumbbells?
I keep seeing people recommend those weight adjustable dumbbells, especially the newer “quick-dial” types, as must-haves for any home gym. But after using several (Powerblocks, Bowflex, etc.) over the years, I keep coming back to old-school fixed dumbbells—yeah, even with the inconvenience and space they take up.
I get that some people are short on space, but is the tradeoff worth it? Adjustable models always seem to have issues: they’re usually much bulkier, the grips feel weird, and the balance is nothing like a regular dumbbell. Not to mention they don’t seem as durable in the long run; I’ve seen more than one break or get sketchy after some moderate use.
Am I missing something major here? Or are we all overrating these things because they’re trendy and “space-saving”? Anyone else go back to fixed after getting tired of the quirks? Convince me—if you can.
