Anyone here using the Marcy Pro PM-4400 at home? I’m piecing together a first home gym and this one keeps popping up because it seems to bundle a rack, pull-up bar, and lat/low row in a compact footprint. I can’t find much real-world info though, and I’ve got a few newbie questions before I pull the trigger:
- Pulley ratio: What’s the actual high/low cable ratio (1:1, 2:1, etc.) and does it change with different attachments or routes? How much weight do you actually feel on lat pulldowns and low rows?
- Smoothness and noise: Is the cable path smooth under load or does it bind? Any clanking from the carriage/safeties that would be annoying in an apartment?
- Plate compatibility: Are the loading pegs okay with full-size Olympic 45s without rubbing or bottoming out? If it supports 1″ plates, do the adapters for 2″ sleeves stay tight?
- Attachment fit: What’s the upright size, hole diameter, and spacing? Have you successfully used third‑party J-cups, spotter arms, dip bars, or landmines (Titan/REP/Yes4All, etc.)?
- Safeties: Do the safeties flex with heavier loads? Anyone add UHMW or rubber to quiet them and protect the bar?
- Pull-up clearance: Under an 8′ ceiling, can you actually get your chin over the bar without hitting the ceiling? Can the pull-up crossmember be flipped/relocated to lower it?
- Stability: How stable is it on carpet vs rubber mats? Does the lat pull or low row shift the rack at heavier weights? Any need to anchor it?
- Bench compatibility: Any issues lining up a standard adjustable bench for incline presses and rows without hitting the low-row footplate or seat posts?
- Footprint and wall clearance: How much space behind it do you really need so the lat bar doesn’t smash into a wall at full extension?
- Assembly and parts: Any gotchas during assembly (misdrilled holes, missing hardware, misaligned pulleys)? How long did it take solo? Tips on assembly order that make it easier?
- Maintenance: What do you lube (guide rods, pulleys, cables) and how often? Anyone had to replace the cable-easy to source the right length/ends?
- Mods/upgrades:
- Belt squat using the low pulley-worth it? How did you set up the platform?
- Add-on landmine-where did you mount it?
- Swapping to aluminum pulleys or a thicker cable-did it noticeably improve feel?
- Any way to add a mid-pulley for face pulls without drilling?
- Durability: Any long-term issues like cable fraying, pulley bearings going, or finish chipping on the uprights?
- If you replaced it, what did you upgrade to in the same price/space range and why?
If you’ve got measurements (upright width, hole size/spacing, max usable plate sleeve length, total height), that would help a ton. Trying to figure out if this is a smart all-in-one for a small space or if I should piece components together instead.
